Interested in making a game? here are some advices
Today i am going to give some general advices for game developing, these may prove to be
basic and even obvious to some people, nevertheless, i find them important to mention due
to how useful they are.
About advices in general game development
Game development is one of those things that sounds super fun(and it is)but it can also feel
like trying to solve a 1.000-piece puzzle with half the pieces missing and a manual that
doesn´t actually help. Whether you're diving into your first project or you've already done
more, here are some tips to take into account:
1. Start small
It is better to begin with small things in order to grow up way later on, just make something
works. Things like a simple 2D platformer or a puzzle game will do the trick, also, try to
take your times all the times and don`t rush things over even if the project isn`t that
convoluted. Always try to finish it and feel proud of yourself!
2.Prototype for testing
Don`t be a perfectionist with your game mechanics and prioritize the flow of ideas in order
to have a gameplay. With that completed you will have a product to sell at least.
3.Plan a realistic scope of the content
Try to have a small plan for the things, specially if you are working alone or with few team
members. Focus on improving the things you have so everything else won`t turn into a big
mess.
4.Test the game at all times
Your game might make perfect sense to you. But hand it to a friend who’s never seen it
before, and suddenly things aren’t so clear. Regular playtesting can catch bugs, weird
difficulty spikes, or confusing UI choices early on, so in short words, look for betatesters
or friends to know their opinion in the matter!
5. Always bear in mind the burnout!
Pacing is the key. Remember you are a human being as well that has to take care of an
important life. So, always remember to take a break sometimes from all the tinkering and
enjoy yourself for a while.
6.Join a community
And finally, find a community to join to! the support from others will always be necessary
in order to know things about art, code, and more! remember the game development is a
social community for everyone!
To conclude...
Every dev started somewhere, and no one gets it perfect on their first try. Keep building,
keep learning, and don’t be afraid to fail a few times. That’s part of the process.
